Privacy Policy
Last updated: August 16, 2026
This policy describes the information Lexicon (the iOS and macOS app) collects, why, and how we use it. It is written in plain English on purpose. If anything is unclear, email [email protected] and we'll explain.
The short version: Lexicon has no ads, no analytics, and no tracking of any kind. The only information that ever leaves your device is a feedback message, and only when you choose to send one.
What stays on your device
- Your searches and search history. Stored in standard user defaults on the device. Never transmitted anywhere.
- Your preferences — colour theme, sort order, whether the animated background is on. Same story.
- The dictionary itself. The whole word list ships inside the app, so searching never touches the network.
What we collect, and only when you send it
The one feature that transmits anything is Send Feedback. When you submit that form, the following goes to our server at lexicon.digitalram.page so we can read and act on it:
- Your message.
- Your email address — optional, and only if you type one in because you want a reply.
- Diagnostic context to help reproduce bugs: platform, OS version, device model, app version and build, and locale.
- Your IP address and User-Agent, which the receiving web server records the way it does for any HTTP request.
That is the complete list. If you never send feedback, the app never sends us anything at all.
What we don't do
- No advertising. Previous versions of Lexicon displayed banner ads through the Google Mobile Ads SDK. That SDK, and every trace of ad serving, has been removed from the app.
- No analytics. Firebase Analytics has been removed. We do not measure how you use the app.
- No crash reporting SDK. Firebase Crashlytics has been removed. We rely on the anonymised crash reports Apple provides to developers, which you control under iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Analytics & Improvements.
- No tracking. Nothing in the app tracks you across other companies' apps or websites, so there is no App Tracking Transparency prompt and no advertising identifier is read.
- No accounts. There is no login and no profile.
- No selling or sharing. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with data brokers.
Purchases
Lexicon is free, and every feature is available to everyone. There is an optional tip jar — a $0.99 consumable purchase that unlocks nothing and is simply a way to support development if you'd like to.
Tips are processed by Apple through StoreKit. We never see your payment details; Apple does. The app records only a local count of how many times you've tipped, which stays on your device.
Definitions and web search
Looking up a word's definition hands off to software outside Lexicon: the system dictionary on iOS, Dictionary.app on macOS, or your web browser if you choose "Search the Web". Anything you do once you're there is covered by that software's own privacy terms, not ours. Searching for words inside Lexicon never leaves your device.
Children
We don't knowingly collect personal information from children. The app requires no account and collects nothing unless someone deliberately fills in and submits the feedback form.
Your choices
- Don't send feedback — then nothing ever leaves your device.
- Leave the email field blank when sending feedback if you don't want a reply and don't want us to have an address.
- Delete the app to clear all on-device data, including your search history.
- Request deletion of any feedback you've sent by emailing [email protected] from the address you submitted with.

If we make material changes we'll update the "Last updated" date at the top and, where appropriate, surface a notice in the app.
